Gift of Community

About Gift of Community and the
New Glarus Community Foundation

Since 2002, Gift of Community has honored New Glarus citizens who have donated their time and talents back to the community. Each year, an honoree is chosen for a good-humored “Roast”, which takes place during the Gift of Community dinner.  Community Asset Awards are given based on nominations from the public. Proceeds from the extra-special silent auction go to our own New Glarus Community Foundation.

The New Glarus Community Foundation distributes grants to improve the quality of life in New Glarus. Projects supported by the Foundation include: village parks, youth, cultural events, land use and other projects of “significance.”

The money you contribute to the Community Foundation goes into a permanent endowment, the income from which is used to fund the grants.

This is the 11th year of the Gift of Community event. The student portion of “Gift of Community”will take place during a special assembly at New Glarus High School, on February 22, 2012 at  2:30 p.m.  This year’s program welcomes guest speaker, The Capital Time’s Editor Emeritus, Dave Zweifel followed by the Student Asset Awards. What better place for these young go-getters to be honored than in front of their peers and teachers?

Our Saturday evening portion takes place on February 25th and includes a silent auction, dinner, Community Asset Awards and Roast, all at Flannery’s Wilhelm Tell Club. Our Local Celebrity Roastee this year is Matt Streiff who has been active in our community his entire life.

If you have not yet experienced “Gift of Community”, grab some friends and come on down. It’s truly an evening of fun and fellowship – no matter how long you have lived in New Glarus.  Our Saturday evening event has been a sell-out every single year. Don’t wait until the last minute to make your reservations this year! Mail your registration to: The Bank of New Glarus, P.O. Box 129, New Glarus, WI 53574.
